Sunday 14th October 2007

A solid performance this week where Birch run out deserved winners against a committed Prince of Wales team.

Goals from Tommy Reeves, a penalty from skipper James Collins & another strike from Paul Smith meant the boys got back to winning ways after last weeks disspointing display.

The side were ahead after only 30 seconds when Alan Selby had a shot which was blocked. The resulting ball came across to Mark Beale who headed down for Tom Reeves to score an easy tap in. 1-0 Paul Birch FC

A great start and just what they needed after last weeks awful result. However, Prince of Wales got back on level terms after 16 minutes when Nick Byworth was adjudged to have pushed their striker. Prince of Wales converted the penalty and made it 1-1.

Through the rest of the first half the home side had chances to go ahead with a volley wide from Tom Reeves after twenty two minutes and then Paul Smith shot wide after some good work from James Collins and Alan Selby.

Into the second half and Paul Birch FC were back ahead after fifty one minutes. Their defender handballed and James Collins stepped up and struck a fine penalty past the keeper. 2-1 Paul Birch FC.

The home side continued to press and had a number of chances to get the third. Reeves had a volley saved, Smith had a volley go just over and Selby had a shot saved. Prince of Wales had an emergency keeper in goal who was originally a midfielder and he done a sterling job. He was having a blinder!!

However, the game wrapped up after seventy eight minutes when Birch put Smith through who struck past the keeper to make it 3-1 Paul Birch FC.

A good result and a great way to bounce back after last week. The first team now have a week off before their cup game at Centaurs.
